Note, I am unsure of medium. Original poster whom is trusted, states oil. Other works by this artist generally are watercolor

Not to sound like a hipster (I am), but if you, like me, are sick of being spoonfed algorithmic music a la spotify/youtube, may I suggest: the radio. I’ve been listening to a lot of KEXP lately and it’s been genuinely refreshing

Hey so not gonna say this is a terrible take, since top 100 stations definitely exist. But if you’re using that as a basis to write off radio entirely, you’re seriously missing out.

If you want a good example of radio, one manned by human DJs playing a curated mix of music they like as well as listener requests, I recommend KEXP. There’s a reason I linked them. And while like, yeah, use your local library, that’s only good for if I know what I want to listen to. We’re trying broaden horizons here, not just stick to the same old or pull new music randomly out of a hat.

That’s to say nothing of specialty stations, nonprofit stations, your local college station manned by weird college kids… hell even those top 100 stations will have blocks dedicated to more specific tastes. c89.5 has Cafe Chill sunday mornings which focuses on newer trance music, and then Carnaval Mix in the evenings featuring Latin dance music.

My point here is it’s not just about “beating the algorithm”. Radio stations are operated by real human beings, who are actually interested in and passionate about sharing their music. It’s about that human connection and community. And it’s the best and easiest way I’ve found to discover great new music.

This post is 100% okay to plug your local station on. Share a link, tell us about it!

KEXP literally played us, @crystalfurs, multiple times. A lil random Tumblr band. They’re cool as hell.

Other PNW stuff! Check out XRay.fm, KBOO, Portland Radio Project…

East coast side of things, WFMU!

more PNW but i’m begging you to check out KMHD jazz radio!! yes, they play more than jazz, plus it’s completely ad-free and listener supported. my favorite program is the brazilian beat at 7pm PST on monday nights!

mural i painted in april. this shed will be torn down soon, but i had fun. don’t fear making art that won’t last. draw on shitty paper, paint where it will be covered up, use your handmade mug until it breaks. life is to be lived.

fascism looks like asking elderly & disabled individuals to turn their air conditioning off and die while your HOA/county also bans putting solar panels on your roof because “what if it’s ugly”

it’s also: telling people to evacuate their homes in a natural disaster and not offering them any method to leave whatsoever

71% of people who died in Hurricane Katrina were over the age of 60 or disabled

climate change will kill disabled people and the most vulnerable first. it already has. the fucking White House itself even admits they utterly failed disabled/elderly people in 2005
